- סֵרָיוּת, סֵי׳f. (סרי) offal, garbage, offensive matter; stench. Y. Ḥag.II, 77c bot.; Gen. R. s. 1 מקום ס׳ a place where garbage is deposited. Ib. s. 28 ומלאו … ס׳ they filled the whole city with stench. Ib. s. 63 ותצא סֵרְיוּתוֹ עמו (not סרייתו) let the offensive matter (surrounding the embryo) go out with him; Yalk. ib. 110. Pesik. Bshall. p. 81b>; Yalk. Ex. 225 סֵי׳ putrid fish. Ex. R. s. 42 (ref. to סָרוּ, Ex. 32:8, cmp. סָרָה a. סִירָה I) נעשו ס׳ נעשו כובים (not כזבים) they have become refuse, they have become thorns. Y.Kidd.III, end, 65a מוליכין … וס׳ אצל ס׳ mud is carried to mud, and refuse to refuse (v. טִינָּא, a. correct quot. s. v.).V. סִירָה I, 2.
